The square shape is an easy nail shape to achieve and gives your nails a clean classy look.
- Looks Great on Short Nails
- Is the Easiest Shape to Achieve
- Clean Classy Look
- Having corners on your nails makes them more prone to breakage.
- This shape is not good if you have a very active lifestyle where you do a lot with your nails
How to Achieve
The square nail shape is by far the easiest nail shape to achieve. All you have to do is take a glass nail file and file your nails in a straight line. You do this until your round nail turns into a square. It’s as simple as that.
The squoval shape is very similar to the square shape. However, rather than having sharp nail corners, the corners are more rounded. The shape will give your nails a clean and classy look.
- Great for Short Nails
- Stronger than the Square Nail Shape
- Gives a Clean and Classy Nail Look
- Not as Easy to Achieve as the Square Look
How to Achieve
This is how you get the squavol nail look. All you have to do is take a glass nail file and file your nails in a straight line. You do this until your round nail turns into a square. You then have to take your glass file and round out the corners a little bit. Remember, you don’t want to have sharp nail corners like the square shape. Once you have a square shape with rounded edges, you are finished.
3. Oval/ Round Nails
Oval-shaped nails or the round shape nails a strong nail shape that will give your nails a classic and well-manicured look. It’s great for wide nail beds especially because it can give wide nails a more narrow look.
- Gives wide fingers more of a narrow look
- Is an amazing shape for shorter nails
- Gives you an elegant and timeless nail look
- Does not look as good on long nails
How to Achieve
Nails grow out the same length across the entire nail. To get the oval shape, You do these two things: slightly narrow the top part of the nail and round out the nail. Slightly narrow the top the nail by filing down the sides of the nail slightly. You don’t want to file too far down because then the oval shape will turn into the almond shape. Then you want to round out the nail with the glass file to get a smooth round finish. Now you have the round nail shape.

4. Almond Nails
Almond-shaped nails give your nails a very elegant and elongated look. So if you have short fingers and want to make your hands look like they have long fingers, then the almond nail shape is for you.
- Gives an elegant Look
- Makes nails Look Longer
- Makes Hand Shape look more Slender
- The shape is best for longer nails.
- Not Ideal for Very Active Lifestyles
How to Achieve: Nails grow out the same length across my entire nail. To get the almond shape, do these two things: narrow the top part of the nail and round out the nail.
Similar to the oval shape, file the sides of your nails down. Because you want an even more narrow look, file more of the sides down. Once the top of the nail is more narrow, use the glass file to round out the free edge of your nails to even them out. Then you have achieved the almond nail look.
Finding the perfect nail shape for you comes down to your unique needs and personal preference. Whether you want to have a classic shape or a more elongated nail look, there is a nail shape out there for you. The Worst Nail Shapes for Natural Nails
These are other popular nail shapes that I don’t recommend for natural nails. They are okay for acrylic nails that you get done at the nail salon, but are not well suited for natural nails.
1.Stiletto Nails- The stiletto shape is the pointy shape nails that give a very edgy look. However, I don’t recommend it for natural nails because when you make your nails narrow and pointy, they will be very prone to breakage.
2.Lipstick Nails- When you have a slant on the free edge of your nails, this is just not a strong nail shape. If you shape your natural nails like this, it will be prone to breakage.
