Do your nails often break and split easily? Then Don’t worry! I’ve got some super easy nail tips to help you avoid cracked and split nails. Let’s explore ways to keep your natural nails healthy and strong.

Nail Care
An important aspect that helps prevent nail splitting is good nail care. This is a combination of nurturing your nails and preventing damage to your nail plate.
Use Cuticle Oil Daily
Dry nails are the most common cause of peeling nails. This is because dry nails break more easily. The best way to fix dry nails is with cuticle oil. Applying cuticle oil daily keeps your nails moisturized so they don’t break. There are a variety of cuticle oils out there for nails, but here are the top five that I recommend: Almond, Coconut, Avocado, Jojoba, and Olive. You can use these oils separately or in premade blends. Here are a few premade cuticle oils that I recommend from Amazon.

Switch to a Glass Nail File
Have you ever noticed splitting from the top of the nail? That might be because your nail file is too rough. If you use a regular nail file with a grit of 100, that will cause your nails to peel . That is why I recommend that you switch to a glass nail file. Glass nail files are softer than regular nail files and won’t cause your nails to split or peel. You can find a ton of glass nail files on Amazon, but here are two companies that I recommend from Amazon!

Use a Less Harsh Nail Polish Remover
Taking off regular nail polish with harsh removers can dry your nails out and cause nail breaks. Unless you’re removing gel nails, using a gentler nail polish remover is recommended. Using soy or non-acetone removers is a great way to prevent your nails from drying out. You can also use a nail polish remover that contains nourishing ingredients like vitamin E and aloe vera. Here are some nail polish removers on Amazon that I recommend.

Remove Nail Enhancements Properly
Removing gel or acrylic nails too roughly can cause nail problems. It’s important to be gentle with the cuticle pusher when removing these enhancements from your nail bed. It’s also a good idea to moisturize your nails with a nail oil soak after you do this treatment. Nail Oil Soak Recipe Here.

Nail Health
Another important thing that will help you avoid cracked and split nails is nail health. Strong nails are a combination of what you put on and in your body(having a healthy diet is key). Here are two important vitamins that you want to have in your diet to prevent nail splitting.

Iron for Strong Nails
Having an iron deficiency is pretty common in the United States. It’s also a pretty common cause of brittle fingernails. Iron helps carry oxygen to the nails which is important for nail growth. A deficiency in iron can cause nail ridges. In severe cases, it can cause misshapen nails which are known as nail spooning. Here are iron rich foods you can eat to prevent this: spinach, lean meats, sweet potatoes, and peas. You can also take a multivitamin that contains iron to prevent this vitamin deficiency.

Vitamin C for Healthy Nails
Vitamin C plays an important role in producing the collagen that makes up your nails. Collagen is like the building blocks for your nails and gives it its structure. Having low vitamin C levels can lead to weak finger nails that split easily. Here are foods rich in vitamin C to help prevent this. oranges, strawberries, and tomatoes. You can also take a collagen supplement. These come in pills and powders. A really good collagen powder on Amazon is from Ancient Nutrition. Feel free to check it out here.
Note: Underlying health issues like anemia or a thyroid problem can affect your nails too. Please consult a healthcare provider if you are experiencing weak nails with these health conditions.

Nail Lifestyle
Lastly, your daily routines can also affect your nails. Household chores and what you do for a living can affect the health of your nails. Let’s check out how to keep your nails safe and protected in different situations.
Gloves for Dish Duties
Did you know that doing dishes without gloves can dry out your nails? That is because of long-term exposure to soap and water and dry out your nails. To keep your nails in good health, I recommend wearing dish gloves when you are scrubbing the dishes. This simple step will protect your nails from getting all dried out and keep them in shape. You can get dish gloves from almost anywhere, but I recommend the bright and fun color ones.

Caring for Nails in Your Job
If you work in a place where your nails are in water a lot, like in healthcare, you might need some extra care. Try using a clear polish or a rubber base gel polish to shield your nails from all that water.

Conclusion
Nail splitting is a common problem that can be prevented with three things. You want to have good nail care, nail healthy, and nail lifestyle to avoid cracked and split nails so that your nails can flourish.
